The Best of Both Worlds: Using the Thermomix® for Prepping Sauces, Rubs, and Marinades for BBQ Smoking

Barbecuing isn't just about the meat or veggies - it's about the infused flavour. Behind every delicious BBQ dish lies a yummy sauce, rub, or marinade that elevates it to the next level which can be made easily in your Thermomix®. In this BBQ Smoker Combo series I am featuring my fav Cookidoo® recipes that compliment the BBQ Smoker I received for Christmas. Most of these recipes are mains, however I have snuck in a few desserts, as well and some vegetable recipes. If you don’t have a BBQ smoker, then don’t look away as these recipes featured this month can still be made as they originally were design for – in your oven.

Thermomix BBQ Sauces to level up your BBQ

Have you made your own sauces or are you still buying them? It’s time to start whipping up your own for not just BBQ time, but for burger night, fish and chips or even just for a salad. Your Thermomix Cookidoo® makes the process effortless and consistent each time so you can find your favourites and make them time and time again.

Thermomix recipes used in the BBQ Smoker is a combo set to see you making restaurant style dishes from your home.

Crafting the perfect Thermomix Rub:

The Rub for the meat takes an ordinary piece of meat and turns it into something amazing that you would expect to spend a decent amount for eating out. The most basic rub contains SPOG – Salt, Paprika, Onion powder & Garlic powder. From there you can go spicy adding chilli flakes, sweet with a sweetener (grain or powder – not liquid) or spiced up with Cumin and other spices. These take only seconds to mix up in the TM and then sprinkled and rubbed into the meat. Check out this video on making a delicious Brown Sugar Rub - perfect on Vegetables, Meat or Tofu.

Marinades for Meats:

Pre-marination is the key to infusing flavour and increasing tenderness. Once marinated, wrap the meat in alfoil (this is known as boating) and cook slow and low until it is done to your liking. Marinades that are sugar based are lovely basted during the cooking process, onto the meat to produce a sticky coating that is delicious.

Tips and Tricks for Success:
  • Experiment with different flavour combinations to create signature sauces, rubs, and marinades then add them to Cookidoo® 3.0 so you have them for future reference.

  • Don't be afraid to get creative—try incorporating unexpected ingredients such as fruit purees like the pears in the marinade here, infused oils, or unusual spices for a unique twist.

  • Store your homemade sauces, rubs, and marinades in the vac-u-seal containers in the refrigerator for future use, maximising convenience and freshness. P.S Please remember to check my name is displayed before pressing the checkout button - many thanks x
