Caravan Cooking
Caravan cooking has never been easier with a Thermomix on board. With some simple organisation, you can have amazing food from where ever you are in this beautiful country. During 2020 & 2021, we travelled signifantly with our caravan with the Thermomix on board, but prior to this, our Thermomix always came on holiday's with us in our tent, the back of the car, and even hotels - providing us with restaurant quality food. You will find on this page, my top tips to taking your Thermomix with you - and if you don't yet have one, the very reason you need one on your next adventure x Lisa Keegan - Australian Wide Team Consultant & Team Leader

What you want to make
Spending a short time planning, goes alongway to knowing what you need to pack. Cookidoo makes this planning and organisation a breeze. Creating collections of your favourite snacks you want to make BEFORE you leave, the dinners and drinks you want to make WHILE away - all easily planned and shopped for with Thanks to Cookidoo.

Pre-making what you can
What you make will depend on what your fridge/freezer space will allow, as well as when or if you will have power along the way. On our shorter trips, premaking the dinners, freezing them ready to reheat is our usual go to. For our longer trips, flat packed freezer sauces from my Fill the Freezer eBook that I can later reheat over a fire, or on a stove top if we are off-grid then adding the meat and vegies is our usual way.

Storage for your Thermomix
Consideration for where you are packing your Thermomix in your car, caravan or camper is worth giving some time to. If you have a TM31, TM5 or TM6 you might want to invest in the Travel Bag to keep it safe during your travels. The TM7's travel bag is called the 'Shopper Bag' and worth investing in to pretect it from other moving items in your car, trailer or van. The scales in the TM5,TM6 and TM7 all have suspension, so won't be damaged while travelling.

Powering a Thermomix
If you are considering taking your Thermomix off-grid it is worth making sure you have the right gear to do so. The Thermomix (TM31, TM5, TM6 & TM7) all require a 2000 watt pure sine inverter and at least 200amps of batteries.
In our caravan we ran -
-
2 x 205amp Deep Cycle Batteries, powered by solar on the roof
-
2000w pure sine wave Projecta Inverter
In our tow vehicle we ran -
-
2 x 100amp Lithiam Batteries (under bonnet)
-
2000w pure sine wave Enerdrive Inverter
In both of these cases, we could get at last two evenings of cooking plus day time mixing before having to recharge the batteries. We only had one occassion while camping on the side of Lake Tinaroo off-grid with consecutive raining days, where we ran out of power on day three.

The benifits of taking your Thermomix
We could not image heading away without the Thermomix. Not only do I not have the skills to cook in any other way without burning pots and pans, but the freedom to eat what we enjoy without it breaking the budget is a massive win for us. Making fruity dream on a hot afternoon, making rice while reheating pre-made curry and steaming vegies - all at the same time! Not having to worry about where to find dinner in a new place in the evenings - plus not getting the tummy ache from eating something you would not normally have. It is well worth considering when you will have power if you don't have power with you. Maybe on longer trips, its a big cook up at a camp kitchen once every fortnight, or the odd powered site to get you sorted.

Why you might not take the Thermomix away
There would be the odd occassion I would leave my Thermomix at home however, I could guarentee that I would be eating pre-prepared Thermomix meals and snacks while away. If threre was no power at all available, then this would certainly make it difficult to use a Thermomix on your adventures. Our favourite recipes to make on these occassions is my Vegie Slice, a Simple Quiche or Bliss Balls. In addition to these, pre-making the Fill The Freezer recipes, so I could pop the sauce in a saucepan over a stove or fire, add the meat and vegies and have an amazing and nutritious dinner.
